The quiet joy of cozy mobile games
Somewhere along the way I stopped apologizing for loving cozy games. The farming sims, the gentle adventures, the puzzle games with no clock. They occupy a specific slot in my day and nothing else fills it.
The appeal is low stakes. After a noisy day, the last thing I want is a game yelling at me about combos and timers. I want to water some crops, catch a fish, and watch a little world get slightly nicer.
Good cozy games are harder to make than they look. Pacing has to feel generous without being empty, and the loop has to stay rewarding without any real pressure. Get it wrong and it is just boring.
If you have never given the genre a chance, try one before bed for a week. You might find, like I did, that it becomes a small ritual you actually look forward to.
